I work in Worcester but live in Boston, so I always commute back on Mass Pike. I always wondered, and I was wondering today if anybody else finds it annoying that we have to stop and pay tolls even when we are staying on Mass Pike. Why can't they reprogram their thingamagic to charge my Fast Lane when I get off in Boston? Is there really a need for us to stop there and pay? Is there even a need for those toll booths?
Readers have left 5 comments. 1. big manYeah I know what you are saying but think of all the places they'd have to put toll booths. There isn't room. Take Exit 17 for example. Not gonna happen there with that rotary there. 2. ChrisThe tolls in this town are stupid. They were supposed to go away anyways, years ago after the pike was paid for. instead they keep raising them. I love massachusetts! 3. BoscorelliThose tolls are needless, and they basically forgot to tie those into the system when Fast Lane came around. In the beginning when they installed Fast Lane, I think they announced they will be incorporating the inner 95 exits to that in "phases." Good point about Brighton Exit at Exit 17 though, big man. Isn't that the only one though? 4. big manI don't think it has anything to do with Fast Lane. I mean, you can use fast lane at those toll booths. The problem that I think Spooky is ranting about is the fact that they are in the middle of the highway, so everyone has to go though the tolls at the same time, which creates backups. Am I right Spooky?
It would seem that the solution is to move the tollbooths onto each individual exit. But what I was saying is that exit 17 is too crowded to do that. Yeah you are right though, that might be the only one. Maybe they could make it work but we'd end up paying for it with higher tolls. 5. SpookySnoopyI don't think I explained it correctly. My bad. I think big man's got it, but what I was writing was that those tollbooths on Eastbound Mass Pike (for people going through) are not necessary at all...because people can just pay when they get off. |
