Did I hear that there will be another price hike for MBTA?  Apparently MBTA's debt is now 8.1 Billion Dollars, and they are faced with another decision to take out loans farther putting them in the hole or...get this...increase the fare by 38%.  This means that a T ride will increase to $2.35, and this is on top of the recent hike from 1.25 to 1.75.  Oh, my gosh, I still remember when the T was $0.75.  (I also remember when the gasoline was $0.79/gallon, but that's a whole another story.

How can the debt be more than it was after the hike earlier this year? They are obviously lacking ridership, and I wonder what makes them think they will increase that by raising their price. Or is it that they need more money to raise the quality of service which will attract ridership in the long run? (The practical chicken or the egg situation.)

How can the service be any worse? Have you seen how their employees treat their customers? Those bus drivers wicked mean.

Here's a funny story...did you guys know that Green Lines run on a schedule? Yes, it actually has a "schedule". it sure made me laugh when I saw it on their website.

I was in London earlier this year. They just privatized all of the subway and train lines. It would seem that that would help, since someone would be running it as a business rather than a service. However, everyone I talked to said it just made things worse, and from what I saw I have to agree. NOthing ran on time, delays constantly. etc.

So basically I think the MBTA sucks but I don't know how they can fix it. [smiley=evil]

They are worst than the USPS now. It seems like every time I blink they are raising fares. its becoming not worth riding the T.
