To Mr. I-Drive-Like-An-Old-Man Taurus Driver:

That red sign with eight sides and STOP on it means you have to stop.  Yes, even if you are waiting in line behind another guy.

It does not mean "STOP: then go whenever you feel like it".

It does not mean "STOP: unless your mom told you you're special".

It means "STOP WHEN YOU REACH THIS SIGN".

What does that mean?  well, when the guy in front of you's turn comes to go, he gets to go.  Then guess what?  You have to stop again when you pull up to the intersection.  yes, at the STOP sign, that's where you have to stop.  Then, it's my turn, because I got there before you.  There is a pecking order.  See how that works?

Furthermore, you not only blatantly ran a stop sign, you also failed to follow protocol when I flipped you off and leaned on the horn.  Any boston driver worth his salt would at LEAST return the favor.  Preferably with a slamming of the brakes and some choice profanities yelled out the window.  That Bambi in headlights look you gave me did not suffice.  So, naturally I had to take drastic measures and give you another Honk 'n' Flip when you turned off the road later.  I'm sure you understand.

I would like to be the first to comment on my own article and just say how theraputic it was to rant about it. I feel much better now.

I love this site!

LOL, yah those 4 way stops are a bitch. No one seems to know what to do with them. However this guy was clearly in the wrong. When the guy in front of you goes, you don't just get to go behind him.

"Bambi in headlights" I love it.

Thing is, if the guy knew he was wrong, he'd have honked right back at you. It sounds like he was really surprised that he'd somehow upset you.

My mommy always said I was special. I don't get to go?

Damn, the same thing happens to be, and I live in Kendall. Four way signs everywhere (just like everywhere else in Cambridge. This lady drove straight thru the sign.

Maybe it should say, "ALTO" or "PARE".

Woah, guest, that's a bold comment there...unless you are yourself Spanish or Mexican.

Let me take this opportunity to mention another rule not so well known. When two cars approach the four-way stop intersection at the SAME TIME, you yield to the car to the RIGHT of you. hence the term, "Right of way."

I am not sure if the last part is true, but it's not that hard to remember.

Sully, to people from Europe, that's actually a commonsense. I lived in France for 8 years, and that's pretty much the only rule that exists at any intersection. You approach an intersection, you check "right", and if there are no cars, you can blow through it. "Right of way" is the only rule.

I can add another rule. In France, when you are driving in a rotary (or roundabouts), you yield to the people 'entering' the rotary. Isn't that so weird?! [smiley=happy]

Snitch,
It's not my fault that I have been taking 11 pills a day even though I was recommended to be taking it once a day.

Get it? Get it? Ok, not funny. [smiley=wink]

DForster. nope, not funny. i think people regularly die from making that mistake.

and please don't make the "thinning the herd" type jokes.
13. DForster
you said it. not me.

wasn't there an ER episode around this? [smiley=think]

OMG it happened again this morning! Same intersection. Different driver. Same exact scenario.

So then I thought, I wonder if some hoodlums took down the stop sign or something? I drove around the block to take a look.

It's still there. sigh.

I think "right" in "Right of way" is kind of like "you have the right to go on your way". Not like, "you are right" or, "yeild to the guy on the right".

However, it does make it easy to remember. [smiley=happy]
