I am not sure if this is universal or limited to Boston pedestrians, but, while I am driving, it bugs the marbles out of me to see people who walk up to a crosswalk, press the button to change the light, and just continue to walk straight into the road without waiting for a green.  What is this all about?  It's complete inefficiency of this modern world.

If they aren't going to wait at all, why do they press the button?  What goes on in their heads? Here are my attempts to answer this mystery:

- They are hoping the light would change instantly...but then, since it didn't change during the few seconds while they walked from the button to the side of the road, they gave up and proceeded to walk into the road.

- They like hearing the "cuck-oo, cuck-oo" sounds.

- They like pressing any buttons they see in the public.  (Which I can kind of relate.)

- They are swinging their arms to swat a bee and accidentally press the button.

- They have no clue what the button is for but have always wondered what it would do.

- They pressed the button as a good samaritan for the gaggle of children following along.

You know what it is? I think people just like to press random buttons. I remember when I was little, I loved it when my dad let me press the button or tag on the line to stop the Green Line train (I'm not sure if they use that anymore).

Maybe they are trying to follow the law, but they just don't have patience. Hence, their intentions are good, but they just can't come through.

People who click for no reasons must be the type who press the elevator button multiple times, in hopes that it would come faster.[smiley=laugh]

Actually I read that a lot of those pedestrian buttons don't even do anything. They just put them there so that people feel like they can do something to speed up their walk across the street.

Yeah I read that somewhere too. Some of the pedestrian buttons work, but many are simply turned off.

Hahaha, my friend from Chicago pointed out the "cuck-oo" sounds. He thought it was very offensive and mocking
