Taxi: Cab Fare from/to Boston Logan Uncontrollably Ridiculous |

This rant is motivated by a recent post about how expensive cabs are in Boston.
I live in East Cambridge near Museum of Science. When I land at Logan Airport and take a taxi home, the ride takes less than 10 minutes. I love the convenience; however, the fare consistently exceeds $20. I think this is ridiculous that I couldn't live much closer to Logan, but I am paying 10 times as much as the base rate of $1.75.
Furthermore, when I take a cab to Logan, the cabbies charge me a flat-rate fee of $24.25 or $27.75 (not including tip) depending on the time of day. Apparently, this is a rate reserved for East Cambridge hotels, but I have to pay it because I live in the area. Yes, I was skeptical, but I heard the same from multiple taxi drivers.
Can you guys believe this? ...and yes, I hear they are trying to raise the fare again. Here are other nutty things:
-$6.00 to just get out of the airport? What the heck? What are these usage fees
-$2.25 to go to Logan Airport. Why does it cost me to "go" there? Does cabbie have to pay the airport?
Readers have left 12 comments. 1. Cambridge Fellow Here's another rule. You cannot take Cambridge taxi in Boston, and vice versa. This poses a problem for someone like me who lives on the Charles. 2. Bones The Cambridge/Boston taxi rule is really annoying. I've seen cabbies get into fights over it. I guess it's a big thing for them. 3. Boscorelli I hate that rule about the Cambridge vs. Boston thing, because drivers hate it when you are crossing the border.
When I try to fight for a cab from Faneiul Hall (or anywhere in Boston for that matter), they ALWAYS ask you where you are going. If you say Davis Square for example, there is no way they will take you, because it takes them too much time to get back to Boston. 4. swesson Bosco! You should do a rant on that one! I am well aware of the CHAOS, and I hate it! 5. King of Waltham Logan to Waltham - $60. Ridiculous. I have taken the commuter rail, but it's too much pain going through South Station. 6. Guest UserSuper what about that damn blue line. i live in allston but it takes me over an hour to get home on the T. rediculous indeed. 7. Chris $60 to Waltham... that is terrible. You know it's bad when the cab fare for the ride to the airport and back rivals the airfare price... Seriously you can probably fly to fricking florida at some times of the year for $120. 8. Guest User I am surprised nobody has mentioned the price of parking at Logan airport. That is a whole another craziness we must all rant about. 9. Guest User Has anyone ever taken the Silver Line to the airport? It stops at the terminals which is a hell of a lot better than having to take the shuttle to the Blue line.
From Red Line areas it would be a lot easier, since you can get it from South Station. Makes it a two-leg journey (red line, silver line) rather than four (red line, green line, blue line, shuttle). 11. Guest User price of a house in waltham- $450,000.00 price of a taxi from waltham center to logan- $47.75 www.walthamcheckercab.com i call that a bargain! 12. Guest User Hotel flat rates to the airport include tip already. Cabbies love them because most people don't know that and they get tip over and beyond what's included.
I usually find the flat rate is more than what I'd pay with the meter plus tip, so I don't add any extra tip onto the flat rate. |
