Has everyone noticed the extra "9" in the gasoline prices at gas stations?  The nine that makes the gas price, not a $2.09 but a $2.099.  Is it only me that thinks this is a dirty deception?

Why can't they be normal and just put $2.10?  Must they try so hard to give the perception that it's under some threshold? How is this even legal?  In fact, I don't even know how to pay $2.099.  If I gave $2.10, do I get a tenth of a penny back?

Maybe the Snicker bars should be $0.999?

There are new gas pumps out there that can clock 1 hundredth or 1 thousandth of a dollar. No joke. In your example, the gas price can be $2.0999.

I would assume it's from when the gas used to cost like 20 cents.[smiley=think]

It's a "price point" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Price_point. Why they must go to the tenth or thousandth of a penny is beyond me. Seems like the additional digits might actually hurt their cause, if people subconsciously see more digits=more money.
