why do pedestrians think they own the road?  I swear, when I am a pedestrian, I am as considerate as possible to drivers.  I walk briskly across the road so the driver doesn't have to wait.  I don't just walk out into the street any random spot, causing drivers to slam on the brakes.

But when I'm behind the wheel, its like another universe..  people walking out, taking their sweet time crossing the road.  How about a little consideration huh?  Did you save a few seconds by stumbling out into the road before I drove by you?  Do you drive like that too?  Maybe that's the problem with this city...

I totally agree with this rant. Some people just walk around like they own the road. Don't these pedestrians drive? I just want to yell at them, "Imagine if you were here driving! Wouldn't you want you to cross faster?!...and at a cross walk?!"

Maybe these people are selfish no matter if they are walking or driving. That'd probably be my guess. When I am crossing the street and a car approaches, even if I am on a crosswalk, I hurry. I do the "courtesy jog", which isn't that much faster than walking, but it's a show of consideration.

Oh, my gosh. Has anyone been on State Street/Congress by Old State House? That intersection is insane. Pedestrians are walking when they have a walk sign, and they are still walking when they have a stop sign. This means that no car ever gets to go. It's more when I try to take a right turn, when people are crossing. They gotta put some cops there.

Can it be that most walk lights in Boston don't work? I am not originally from Boston, but some of my friends joke that the cross lights never work anyways, so they don't follow it. (By the way, I am not saying I support these them. I moved from SF, and people never used to jay walk there.)

There was an article on Boston Globe in a section called Who Taught You To Drive. It mentioned that the jay walking law hasn't been updated for so long that the penalty for being caught jaywalking is $1.

In response to Boscorelli, I completely agree about that intersection. WAY too many people and no order. It's no wonder State Street is a mess all hours of the day. Sadly, I have seen cops posted at the Congress/State intersection to absolutely no avail. Asshole peds just stroll right by the cop telling them to wait. Maybe the problem is we don't have traffic cops with backbones (then again, can you blame them for being a bit emasculated?).

I hate that. Not just in the city, but also in shopping centers. They don't stop, and they don't give. They could just care less about drivers. Such idiots. To them, no cars or a lot of cars are both no cars. That really gets me on fire. Same goes with bicyclists, who just slow you down and continue riding, not even using a sidewalk even when one is there. So stupid! I wonder how they even grew up, because they have no manners. I feel for you.

I totally agree with this person.
And for the 6th poster, Cat Cat Happy I kinda disagree because I AM a biker.
Bikers get no respect at all. We can't go on the road because of cars going by, and the bike lane...it's the worst! Not only do people going out of a parking space don't care a thing about you, but JOGGERS actually go into the bike lane. Dude, it's a BIKE LANE!!! And when we try to go on the sidewalk...
dog walkers...f****** dog walkers...I hate them so much...they take up the whole sidewalk and they think the whole thing belongs to them, which forces us to stop which sucks cuz we want to go fast, being bikers! And also teen groups walking on the sidewalks not moving when you ring your bell like he** and then they yell at you when you're forced to stop suddenly and walk your bike around them!
